Nikon D600: The Ultimate DSLR?

By Ian Darwin on 2012-09-12 15:55 in Category: photography

Great excitement in the photo field as Nikon releases the D600 on September 11th, right when the rumors predicted. The gold box will contain a $2100 (rumors ranged from 1500 to 2600), full-frame DSLR with everything that is great about Nikon. Or $2700 with a nice 24-85mm f/3.5 kit lens.
The specifics are out. The sometimes-hard-to-please Ken Rockwell says it will completely replace the D800, and I think I agree with him - 36MP is more resolution (and more disk storage!) than you need, unless you're shooting something that will be blown up to a 20-story building wall mural. And it has AI indexing, so you can meter with your gorgeous old Nikkor AI lenses made since 1977 (or AI-converted lenses made since 1959).
Update (February): Hoping to have a longer review one of these weeks.
